Supermicro’s IoT Edge Computing solution provides the fundamental building blocks to an intelligent, scalable, and secure IoT infrastructure that can be deployed across multiple platforms. The solution empowers device vendors to build real-time intelligence into their product designs or appliances, regardless of their business model or development skillsets.

The OEM could build the first-generation products in-house using its own computers and components, or it could leverage Supermicro’s extensive global footprint and extensive product portfolio. It is worth pointing out that Supermicro’s standard products are available in as many as 24 countries, making us uniquely positioned for this role.

The heart of this system is the Supermicro’s Supercomputer on Module (SOM). This high-performance, low power, plug-and-play SOM comes in a rugged industrial form factor (IP67 rated) and provides a dual-socket Intel Xeon E5 v3 / v4 processor with high-speed I/O connectivity. The SOM is designed to reduce integration time and effort for OEMs and to make it easier for them to bring their products to market faster.

Supermicro’s award-winning 24/7 US based technical support team is accustomed to working with IoT Edge Computing customers and their unique requirements. Supermicro has also developed a comprehensive set of training materials and a library of online video tutorials to guide customers through the system deployment, operation, and maintenance. They provide a complete turnkey solution for customers to build and deploy IoT Edge Computing products.

Several Supermicro customers are already shipping or bringing out the first generation of their products based on Supermicro’s IoT Edge Computing solution. The second generation of their products is already under development, with a more extensive portfolio of new power-efficient options coming soon.

Supermicro’s Edge Computing solution underpins are the same as those used in our leading-edge server platforms, such as those utilized by cloud and data centers worldwide, making it easy for customers to integrate into their existing IT infrastructures. One significant innovation is the Supermicro SOM. It is the heart of Supermicro’s IoT Edge Computing solution. It provides an industrial strength hardened system with a low power PoE capable quad-core Intel Atom C2558 processor, high-speed I/O connectivity, onboard storage, and two DDR4 DIMM slots to support up to 256GB total memory capacity. Featuring a rugged industrial form factor, the SOM makes it easier for OEMs to incorporate into products. This SOM can be deployed in standalone mode and in concert with multiple other SOMs, making it ideal for all vertical markets from intelligent control panels or kiosks to enterprise and mobile applications such as point-of-sale systems for retail environments, smart metering devices for utilities and intelligent field service devices.
